The Christmas season is just around the corner, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services reports that there are over 5,000 children in foster care in Harris County alone.1 Many of these children do not get to experience the joys of opening presents and receiving gifts for Christmas. They experience feelings of sadness and loneliness as a result.
In an effort to raise awareness of the need for foster caregivers and to "make a child smile for Christmas", the Children’s Community Resource Ministry (CCRM) of The Gate will be collecting new toys for the Children’s Protective Service (CPS) beginning November 6th and ending December 11th. Toys can be brought to the church and placed in the CCRM collection box. Financial donations can be made online on the "Donations" page (make sure to indicate "Toy Drive" in the notes).
